About Southport
Some general information about our lovely town.
We must first begin by boasting 22 miles of coastline stretching from Formby to Southport itself. Along the way you can head into Formby Pine Woods (the home of the Red Squirrel) or stop off a Crosby beach and look at the famous Antony Gormley Iron Men.
Southport is a vibrant Victorian seaside town full of attractions. We have a fun-fair, a promenade (where you can take a leisurely stroll and visit the pier), walk around King’s Gardens, take a turn on the carousel, visit Silcocks amusement arcade and stop off at the Marine Lake for an ice-cream.
The famous Lord Street offers a variety of shops cafes, bars, restaurants and hotels for every budget, and a variety of spas within the area to pamper yourself in. We have quaint arcades with quirky independent shops for you to browse at your leisure.
If you want a relaxed pace why not visit Birkdale Village and Churchtown Village? Both have an array of independent shops and cafes/restaurants in which to indulge a sweet pallet. Churchtown is the home of Botanic Gardens, with Hesketh Park (just outside Southport town centre) not far away.
The Atkinson Art Gallery is Southport’s home for music, art, literature, and history, and is in the middle of Lord Street. It also hosts an Egyptology museum, café and children’s library.
Southport hosts many spectacular annual events, including the Southport Air Show, British Musical Firework Championships, The Southport Comedy Festival, Southport Flower Show and (the free) Southport Food and Drink Festival.
